Wendi's Climate Ride Begins

Tomorrow I begin the longest bicycle journey of my life.  I'll be joining almost 130 other like-minded people on the Climate Ride, a 300 miles ride down the California Coast from Fortuna to San Francisco.  We ride to inspire and empower citizens to work toward a new energy future, raise awareness about Climate Change, and promote bicycling as a green transportation choice.

With Carbon reaching a record 400 ppm just this week, the issue has never been more urgent nor has it ever been more ignored.  So this is my way of getting people's attention.  Not through fear but through joy.  There is nothing more joyful than bike riding.

I'm not an athlete.  I've done my share of biking, using my bike to get around Marin, biking 20 mile easy rides and I've gone on a few bike tours.  But I've never done 60 miles a day for 5 days in a row.  I've always been frustrated as I've watched the hot shot bicyclists pass me by as well as everyone else.  I've been training up for the ride and I'm definitely stronger but no faster.  So I've embraced my inner turtle.  Think of it as a meditation.  And to remind me that any  action, no matter how small, or how slow, can make a difference.  You can follow me on this blog as I send in pictures and short posts from my IPhone.  I'll post a wrap up at the end of the ride.

You can also follow all of us on the  Climate Ride website and join us as we ride into San Francisco Thursday may 23 at noon at the San Francisco Civic Center.  You can also donate to my ride at http://bike.climateride.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=2000
