The San Francisco Theological Seminary is a graduate theological institution with the aim of preparing students to enter the ministry. The school has a campus in San Anselmo as well as one in Pasadena. The San Anselmo campus is affiliated with the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. The school, a Presbyterian institution, teaches a Reform understanding of the biblical works.

The 14-acre San Anselmo site was built in 1890 and is considered a landmark in San Anselmo. Tourists and visitors frequent the beautiful grounds; a "Spirit Walk Labyrinth" tour through the gardens is offered. The grounds and church are a popular place for weddings.

The campus offers a Masters of Divinity, Masters of Arts in Theological Studies, and Doctorate of Ministry. A number of other graduate diplomas and certificates are offered. Applicants are encouraged to visit the campus on prospective-student weekends. Over 85 percent of students receive some form of financial aid.

In addition to its involvement with the Presbyterian community at large and with a number of mission and volunteer activities, the Seminary is a part of town life. The public is invited to walk the gardens and attend services. Many school and youth groups use the Playhouse for shows and performances. The school also puts on different events throughout the year, all of which are open to the public.
