Sir Francis Drake High School, situated on a 21-acre campus, serves students between 9th and 12th grade in the Tamalpais Unified District. Established in 1951, the school has since been named a California Distinguished School. Its Academic Performance Index (API) is 851 out of 1,000, its average ACT is 23 and nearly 80 percent of graduates go on to four-year colleges. It addition to its college-preparatory curriculum, the school offers the choice of integrated academies to 11th and 12th graders. Integrated academies include communications, engineering, environmental science and global visions. A 2001 modernization bond allowed for facility renovations as well as new science classrooms, computers, and a modernized library. The school has extensive sports programs and extracurriculars, including one of the first high school mountain bike teams.
