should we fill every inch of Nature with WiFi, or should we be cautious?
John William Wright May 23, 2013 at 10:48 am
Excellent and long over due questions. The human brain and nervous system are electrical systems,Read More so it is logical to assume that all the EMF fields we humans create are impacting us. I did computer networking for years and we had a client in Sleepy Hollow who could literally feel WiFi in his head, like a drilling sensation, as well as cell phone and cordless phone signals. His wife did not believe him, so she had him go to a neurologist who did blind tests and was able to identify when and what kind of devices were being used in an adjacent room. He hired us to hardwire his neighbors networks so he would not feel them. He also wears protective shielding when he goes out in public. Canary in the digital coal mine, perhaps? The rush for technological solutions to everything rarely considers their impact, thus creating more problems which require further technological solutions. When you take the wrong fork in a road and know you're lost, do you keep going or do you turn around? The truth shall set us free. Love is the only way forward. John W. Wright San Anselmo, CA

I only met him a dozen times when we were photographing the same event for different newsRead More organizations, but I always enjoyed our brief chats. He seemed like a wonderful and kind man, as well as an outstanding photographer. I will miss him.

In March 2012, a group of 11 employees of Stefano's pizzerias in Marin bought 1,200 California Lottery tickets throughout Marin, including the winning ticket worth more than $300K at Jolly King Liquors in Mill Valley.

In a nutshell R.V. We ARE all toast, unless we change our basic relationship to Nature, and theRead More systems which support all life. We are now past 400ppm CO2, and the icecaps are melted/ing, and we just consume on buy into collapsing oblivion. But don't worry about it. Too few seem to care. And we WILL see, eh? Oops, is a lousy wake up, given other choices, and we have chosen via ignorance, apathy, fear, and greed. It's gonna be a wild ride, and it is what we have chosen.
RV dweller May 11, 2013 at 07:21 pm
Wtf does the state of the environment have to do with an art gallery renting a space??
Sierra Salin May 10, 2013 at 08:28 pm
R.V, lets just see what happens environmentally, eh? Not holier than anybody, just more aware ofRead More this fishbowl we live on, and the environmental mess we have and are creating with every purchase we rip and shred out of living Nature. We ARE terrible steward's, and are leaving a toxic mess for all which follow, PERIOD, and what ARE we doing about it? Few of us conserve much of anything. You tell me, R.V, what ARE we doing as a community or a culture, Endless wars, Fracking, Spewing Nukes, GMO's, Keystone Tarsands, Etc, Etc, IS what we are doing, supporting, allowing, and going along with, and shame on us for allowing the destruction to continue for an instant. Really, and truly. shame on us. we fail as steward of a future worth living in, as we create and leave toxicity, and destruction. Period. Holier? Not at all, and the wall of collapsing Natural environments IS approaching rapidly, regardless of what we think or believe. Chicken Little and I are just hangin in the stewpot, along with the rest of us, and merely pointing out some things which most of us care to ignore. I wish the More gallery all the success in the universe, and I do find the name to be excessive, just like the rest of our consumer culture. More, More, More, from a finite living Natural system, without giving anything back, is a recipe for disaster, and collapse. Mr Irving,, Ichabod will always haunt the Hollow, or don't you remember your own writings? Perhaps you have been decomposing?

It's a good day to visualize a Bay Area commute made up of walking paths, bike lanes, ferries,Read More buses, and rail. Someday people will wonder why past generations tortured themselves in cars.
Syrah May 8, 2013 at 09:37 pm
After 10 years of bike commuting to work and college, I will RUN to work on Thursday.... Good luckRead More out there folks, don't forget your helmets and water!

I think it's good that we have someone checking on air quality. I remember just a few years backRead More when we had fires up around Mendocino and my eyes were almost swollen shut for a week and I could not breathe through my nose. I had to take Benadryl every few hours and I almost had to leave the bay area and go live elsewhere for about a week until the fires subsided. The downside of the Spare The Air Group is reflected in the craziness of that year they started ticketing people on Christmas Day for having a fireplace going at home (I think this is when their public support really started to erode) and I also think their policy of not allowing advance approval for people who have no other source of heat (other than a fireplace or wood burning oven) to burn fires in the winter is bad. We do still have poor rural folk around here and they sure can't afford a $200-$300 ticket if they can't afford PG&E heat. There is no way these people can get advanced approval to burn and their answer for these people is: "just explain it to the officer when he shows up and it's his judgement call from there..." Now what kind of rinky dink policy is that? It sounds like a Bay Area Legal Aid lawsuit to defend the poor just waiting to happen.
Michael May 3, 2013 at 11:38 am
Ain't that the truth about the spare the air days. How did we ever allow a small group of who knowsRead More who to tell us "today you can have a fire in your fireplace but tomorrow you can't". Pure bs.
Unfiltered Steve Simoneau May 3, 2013 at 02:56 am
Well, with all this particulate pollution from acres of burning cellulose I would imagine that localRead More hospital ERs would be overwhelmed with respiratory patients who complain complain complain about wood-burning fireplaces. There should be dozens of people wheezing and choking at hospitals. But it is not so. Which pretty much proves that the whole BAAQMD Spare-The-Days are a bunch of malarkey.

Apart from the name calling, you are right about your concern about fire and small roads. To makeRead More things worse, ABAG is now calling on all the towns to increase housing without helping to pay for the cost to you and me for failing infrastructure all over the county/state--sewer, schools, roads, water, gas pipeline etc. Go to the dominican college hearing tomorrow night 'One Bay Area Plan' and voice your concerns. This plan will circumvent local planning depts. and push density infill on all our towns!

IT DOSNT MATTER WHAT TREE HUGER IS ON THAT COUNCIL, THE PROBLEMS THEY HAVE TO ADDRESS IS, PARKINGRead More ON NARROW ROADS, MAYBE BUYING A PARKING SPACE IN TOWN FOR OVER NITE PARKING. FIRE SAFETY. 1.2 Million? Seriously? Maybe there is a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. I cannot believe thereRead More is a more fair employer than George Lucas.
Kevin Moore March 29, 2013 at 01:11 pm
Lucasfilm should have let her work for 30 days to honor the contract, then let her go. In the longRead More run, it would have been the cheaper thing to do. I'm sure HR is painfully aware now.
T McDermott March 29, 2013 at 12:41 pm
If you look at the timeline, Veronese applied to become an assistant manager at Lucas' personalRead More headquarters April 2008, during these interviews the stipulations of the job were discussed, signed a contract for a 30-day position two months later and was told it was a probationary period. At the time the woman was hired she understood that pregnancy was not discouraged but not acceptable during the first year of employment to ensure training and job performance would be not be compromised by loss of time. At the time the woman signed the employment contract she was pregnant and did not disqualify herself, she was having nausea (morning sickness) and had dizzy spells where she almost fell but did not tell anyone she was pregnant. Three days before she was to start work, Veronese told her prospective supervisor, Sarita Patel, that she was pregnant. She said Patel had put the job on hold and had repeatedly delayed her starting date until she complained by e-mail in August that she was being mistreated because of her pregnancy. Lucasfilm withdrew the job offer the next day. Lucasfilm was not discriminatory the woman was deceptive.

This sounds like a blast and I'm planning on going. One question though - how are people gonna getRead More up there? There's not nearly enough parking anywhere on the front side of Tam to accommodate this many people. Shuttle buses? Teleportation? Everyone has to ride their bike? How will this happen?
John Ferguson May 5, 2013 at 03:31 am
So what have we learned? 1. People like to park stolen cars in Ross Valley. 2. Unlocked bikes willRead More be stolen and/or exchanged for beater schwinns. 3. Teenagers like to hang out and smoke stuff (well, we knew that already..) and of course 4. Tweakers still suck.

An employee for the management company of the Redhill Shopping Center reported someone tore off theRead More "E" in the Redhill Shopping Center sign in front of the center. The loss is estimated at $2,000. A Grand Theft report was taken. SERIOUSLY? The estimated loss for ONE LETTER is $2,000.00? That means the lettering alone on this sign cost $42,000.00? The construction of this sign should have been reported as a crime.

This makes my day, seeing a real estate pimp getting nailed by another pimp. These bozos scammed theRead More public into the bubble, kept the money, and are getting paid to mop up. Anyone dumb enough to fall for this scam is too dumb to counsel people on the biggest investment of their lives. I hope this couple lost everything, like the people who trusted them. The money they lost was their victim's money.
