Apparently some that post in here have no idea what a union does. Yes opt in is a default. So what?Read More As a union investagates all concerns on a ballot that will effect them, and makes susgestions(for the betterment of the union) meaning to the benifit of there members. A majority of members know this and its not a problem. What is a problem is crack pot articles like this. Apparently this article wants a 25,000 member union to have 24,400 members to have to opt in to something they already agree with hoping a lot will not because its another pain in the a@@ in there daily things to do. On the other hand if 600 members feel so strong againt it, then they can opt out.

Is the union's ability to freely extract funds from members for political purposes something likeRead More taxation without representation? There are clearly union members with a variety of political views, so it seems fundamentally wrong that they should automatically be supporting the positions of their union's leadership. Let them opt in.

Well yes, it is an attack on unions, specifically government employee unions. There's not much doubtRead More about that. The view that such unions have too much political power, both at the state and local level, is no longer a fringe, minority view. It is probably a majority view in California right now. Not sure what you mean about corporate speech.

I do not "hate" California, nor America, and in fact I greatly LOVE and respect ALL ofRead More Nature. I do detest however, our insane hubristic systems, rules and laws, which are quickly destroing this finite planet's ability to support diverse and healthy life. Perhaps it is the rage underneath it all, as we try to be nicey nice, which has little place for expression or resolution, as we do our best to live and stay sane, in a totally insane system. Perhaps it brings up the feelings of discomfort about the state of Nature, and our political system, we all have underneath, which we try to minimize and not feel, because it is so big, and uncomfortable, and minimized/dismissed, by the spin doctors, lemmings and ostrich's, so we can just get through any day? Where is the place for us to vent our rage at the destruction and inequities in this whirled, which seem so engrained? We need to feel it, and express it, and be heard, in a safe and nonviolent way, without unleashing destruction, AND the destruction is rapidly approaching via the collapse of Nature all around us, regardless, in spite of, and as a result of our rules, laws, and systems which have so little to do with the diverse healthy workings of Nature, and everything to do with individual empire and profit. How DO we fix and change this whirled? Guns, violence and fear ain't gonna leave anything but flames and ruins. It is time for Tikkunamaste, and LOVE..... In a nutshell R.V. We ARE all toast, unless we change our basic relationship to Nature, and theRead More systems which support all life. We are now past 400ppm CO2, and the icecaps are melted/ing, and we just consume on buy into collapsing oblivion. But don't worry about it. Too few seem to care. And we WILL see, eh? Oops, is a lousy wake up, given other choices, and we have chosen via ignorance, apathy, fear, and greed. It's gonna be a wild ride, and it is what we have chosen.

Wtf does the state of the environment have to do with an art gallery renting a space??
Sierra Salin May 10, 2013 at 08:28 pm
R.V, lets just see what happens environmentally, eh? Not holier than anybody, just more aware ofRead More this fishbowl we live on, and the environmental mess we have and are creating with every purchase we rip and shred out of living Nature. We ARE terrible steward's, and are leaving a toxic mess for all which follow, PERIOD, and what ARE we doing about it? Few of us conserve much of anything. You tell me, R.V, what ARE we doing as a community or a culture, Endless wars, Fracking, Spewing Nukes, GMO's, Keystone Tarsands, Etc, Etc, IS what we are doing, supporting, allowing, and going along with, and shame on us for allowing the destruction to continue for an instant. Really, and truly. shame on us. we fail as steward of a future worth living in, as we create and leave toxicity, and destruction. Period. Holier? Not at all, and the wall of collapsing Natural environments IS approaching rapidly, regardless of what we think or believe. Chicken Little and I are just hangin in the stewpot, along with the rest of us, and merely pointing out some things which most of us care to ignore. I wish the More gallery all the success in the universe, and I do find the name to be excessive, just like the rest of our consumer culture. More, More, More, from a finite living Natural system, without giving anything back, is a recipe for disaster, and collapse. Mr Irving,, Ichabod will always haunt the Hollow, or don't you remember your own writings? Perhaps you have been decomposing?
