Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

About David

I'm a 10-year resident of Suisun City with almost a decade of community journalism experience, most recently as the city editor of the Napa Valley Register. I have a degree in journalism from the University of Oregon — go Ducks! — and I paint in my art studio when I have the time. I've won two top public service awards from the California Newspaper Publishers Association. One for uncovering judicial corruption in Napa County and the other for explaining the ins and outs of the Napa County — and state — nursing home system.

I like be in the know of what goes on in the community and I'm excited to be a part of Suisun City Patch because it's a way for my community to gather online.

BELIEFS:

At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.

I believe in a structured society where personal freedom is respected and community involvement is respected as the glue it is that keeps society together. I believe there must be a balance between the two. I believe in regulated capitalism with as few barriers to entry for entreprenuers as possible.

POLITICS: I am a registered independent.

RELIGION: I was raised as a mainstream Episcopalian, and still see the world mostly through that lens.

LOCAL HOT-BUTTON ISSUES: I believe Wal-Mart has a right to do business in the city of Suisun, just like any other business and according to the same rules.

Please do something to open the Amtrak Station early. There a big group of people from 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM (that is if the station really opens at 7:00 AM) that are freezing out there. Today my wife's car read 34 degrees F. It is also psycological, if there were no building, maybe it woulnd be as bad as having to sit out in the cold with a perfectly good building closed right there. Thank you.
