Fairfax Council Race Shaping Up to be Uncontested

Even though four of the five Fairfax Town Council seats will be on the ballot this November, this year’s council is election isn’t shaping up to be much of a doozy.

The first day candidates could pull papers was July 15. Since, only the four incumbents have taken out papers to run, according to Fairfax Deputy Town Clerk Michele Gardner.

Goddard and Coler were both elected to the council this spring. They were among the seven people who applied to fill O’Neil’s vacant seat.

Goddard was appointed to the council in April to replace Ryan O’Neil after he moved outside the town limits.

Coler was appointed to the Fairfax council in May after former Councilwoman Pam Hartwell moved out of state.

San Anselmo will also have four of the five council seats on the ballot this November including one two-year term. However, two people have pulled papers for the two-term seat.

Also on the Nov. 5 ballot will be a $394 million general obligation bond for the Marin Healthcare District. The district is hoping to use the money to pay part of the cost to rebuild and modernize Marin General Hospital.

The district would tax property owners who reside within its boundaries, which encompass all of Marin County except Novato and part of West Marin, to pay for the 30-year bonds. Property owners would pay about $20 per $100,000 of the assessed valuation of their property, according to a district spokesperson.
