Beautiful Hair in December

Hairfax Studio on Bolinas Avenue in Fairfax is up and running with scissors. You’ll find ammonia-free products and a natural approach to the art of color and cuts. We wish them all the very best in the new digs.

A little further afield in Greenbrae, The Style Bar has opened its doors as of today and will be offering nothing but blow outs for that beautiful blow-dried smooth soft shimmery look. of San Anselmo’s co-founder, Cyndi Havard, has followed the trend-setting cities of New York and San Francisco and opened a shop right here in Marin that offers “no cuts or colors, just quick, stylish blowouts.” So, if wielding a blow dryer and brush aren’t within your capabilities and your stylist is booked solid through to the New Year, have no fear. The Style Bar is just down the road at Bon Air Shopping Center and will get you and your hair party-ready in no time.

Can’t Wait for These Sweets

There is a darling little girl named Adriana who has a shop named after her. San Anselmo is the lucky recipient of Adriana Sweets, which will be opening its doors in Red Hill Shopping Center to the right of this Wednesday. The hope was that the doors would have opened on the first of December, but issues with temperature control came up -- which are vital to a shop selling such delectable and often hand-crafted treats -- so a soft opening will likely be happening in just two days.

Frank, the owner and Adriana’s father, was working to get the place ready this morning (along with Adrianna) and the back wall was filled with glass jars ready to be filled to the brim with sweets and savories. We’ll have the pleasure and honor of choosing from many delectables not normally available out here on the West Coast thanks to Frank and his wife’s connections on the East Coast.

“The goal is not to open for the holidays, but to open right,” he said. And if the handmade marshmallows I sampled are any testament to what will be available I know we are in for some sweet, sweet treats.

A Fork Full Of Earth

Thanks to a reader I learned that the little cafe that had a short life at 1605 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. is now the grounds for a lovely catering business named 'a forkful of earth.' Owner, chef Angela, who spent many years working at the lovely Escelan Institute in Big Sur and was voted "Mother Nature Network’s Top 40 Green Chefs Under 40," has created a delightful setting to plan your next event big or small. With a dedication to working with the earth in environmentally positive ways, this is a truly wonderful addition to our community and we wish Angela and her staff the very best.
