Hal Brown bench dedication, paving news and volunteers needed

Read about the bench dedication on August 4th for Hal Brown, Volunteers needed in town and paving on Sunny Hills Drive.

Hal Brown bench

Please join us on Saturday, August 4, at 10 a.m. at Creek Park as we gather to honor our former Marin County Supervisor Hal Brown and dedicate a bench in his memory.

Hal Brown was a champion for many issues, including children and families, safe routes to schools and open space.  In 2007, after the devastating flood of December 2005, he galvanized support for flood control in the Ross Valley, paving the way for adoption of the Ross Valley Watershed and Flood Protection program.

Hal is fondly remembered for his unique style, energetic leadership and always being available to his constituents. His front door, home phone and office were open to any and all who sought his ear to complain or seek counsel.   All are invited to honor Hal at the dedication ceremony.

Paving on Sunny Hills Drive

Paving work is scheduled on Sunny Hills Drive beginning on Friday, July 27 and continuing through Monday, July 30.  The work has been scheduled over a weekend to minimize disruption to the residents of the Parkside Apartments, users of the Sunny Hills School and delivery trucks at the Red Hill Shopping Center.

  • On Friday, there will be lane closures and delays on Sunny Hills Drive, but it will be open to local traffic as the roadway is ground down.
  • On Saturday, Sunny Hills Drive will be closed to all traffic from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for excavation.  After 6 p.m. it will be open to local traffic only (no large trucks).
  • On Sunday, Sunny Hills Drive will be open to local traffic but will be closed to large trucks, as these heavy vehicles will damage the new paving.
  • On Monday, there will be some lane closures but the roadway will be open for traffic with some delays.

The Commission also hears and determines applications for individual zoning changes, planned use developments, design reviews and such. The Commission consists of seven members with a range in skills and experience from construction, law, architecture, public relations and familiarity with various aspects of the San Anselmo community. The Commission meets regularly on the first and third Mondays at 7 pm in the Town Hall Chambers. Terms are for four years and there are two openings.

The Committee will be made up of five (5) members, representing a wide variety of the community, including families, professionals, seniors, etc.  The Committee will include two (2) Councilmembers, with two (2) designated Town staff liaisons (Town Manager and Finance and Administrative Services Director) in an advisory role only.  Candidates will be interviewed and appointed by the Town Council.  The Committee will meet for a period of six (6) months after which time they will report back to the Council on their findings.
