Sidewalk Clearance

It is important that property owners keep adjacent sidewalk and roadway areas clear to ensure adequate clearance for pedestrian and vehicle passage.  The following guidelines may help identify areas that need attention:

  • Flowers, shrubs and other growth (excepting trees) in the parkway area (between the curb and sidewalk) should not exceed 18” in height.
  • Tree branches over the sidewalk should clear the full width of the sidewalk at a height of 7 feet.
  • Tree branches over the roadway must clear the roadway at a height of 15 feet.
  • Flowers, shrubs, hedges and other growth that abuts a sidewalk and/or roadway must be cut back to the edge of the sidewalk and the edge of the curb.

Performing the above gardening duties will ensure that our sidewalks and roads are property cleared for safe pedestrian and vehicle access.

Safe Baby Haven

The Safely Surrendered Baby Law allows a parent to surrender their baby confidentially, without fear of arrest or prosecution for abandonment.

This law allows parents to give up their baby confidentially. As long as the baby has not been abused or neglected, parents may give up their newborn without fear of arrest or prosecution. A parent can bring the baby anytime, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so long as the baby is given to someone who works at the fire station or hospital.

A distressed parent who is unable or unwilling to care for an infant can legally, confidentially and safely surrender their baby within three days of birth. All that is required is that the baby be brought to any designated fire station or emergency room.

All Ross Valley fire personnel have been trained on this law and our three fire stations in the Ross Valley Fire Department have been designated as Safe Baby Havens. They are:

777 San Anselmo Ave., San Anselmo

150 Butterfield Rd., San Anselmo

10 Park Rd., Fairfax
